Prohibited Off Duty Employment: All new vendors must be approved by agency.


The Department reserves the right to deny any request for outside employment that involves:

(a) Unacceptable employment. The outside employment is inconsistent, incompatible

or in conflict with the Opelika Police Department, including, but not limited to the

following businesses or activities:

1. Process server

2. Repossessor or bill collector

3. Towing of vehicles

4. Bouncer/security at a bar, tavern, nightclub or similar establishment

5. Any sexually-oriented business or venture including, but not limited to: strip

clubs, establishments that sell pornographic books or magazines, sexual

devices or videos, or otherwise provide entertainment or services of a sexual

nature

6. Employment in which the primary source of revenue is the sale of alcoholic

beverages.

7. Any outside employment that would require a sworn officer to testify in court in

opposition to another law enforcement agency

8. Employment that assists (in any manner) the case preparation for the defense

in any criminal action

9. Any activity that may be reasonably perceived by members of the public as a

conflict of interest, or may otherwise discredit public service

(b) The use of department time, facilities, equipment or supplies.

(c) The use of the Opelika Police Department badge, uniform or influence for private gain

or advantage.

(d) The member's receipt or acceptance of any money or other consideration for the

performance of duties or services that he/she would be required or expected to render

in the course or hours of his/her employment, appointment or as a part of his/her

regular duties.

(e) The performance of duties or services that may later be subject directly or indirectly

to the control, inspection, review, audit or enforcement of any other member of this

department.

(f) Demands upon the member's time that would render the performance of his/her duties

for this department deficient or substandard.

(g) Activities that may conflict with any other policy or rule of the Department.
