 Prohibited Businesses, Venues and Circumstances. The image and professional reputation of the Town of Davidson and the Department shall be a consideration in the approval or denial of off duty employment.


1. No employee shall engage in off-duty employment where such employment creates a conflict of interest with, the appearance of a conflict, or otherwise adversely affects the employee’s job performance.

2. Officers shall not be permitted to work off-duty for any business involved in a labor-management dispute. 

3. Off-duty employment will not be allowed at establishments where the on-premises sale and consumption of alcohol is the primary source of revenue. 

4. Specific restrictions as outlined in Regulations for Off-duty Employment at a Firm or Establishment Where Alcoholic Beverages Are Consumed will apply to officers who work at these locations.

a. The owners and managers of these establishments will be made aware of these specific restrictions in writing:

- Upon initial request (rules on form), and

- The Off Duty Coordinator will ensure these notifications are made at least annually, and submit documentation of notifications to the Chief.

b. Failure of either officers or employers to comply with the restrictions will result in that  establishment being removed from the list of approved employers. 

5. Officers will be permitted to engage in traffic control and direction in the “Officers Engaging in Traffic Control on

Public Streets”.

 

Failure of either officers or employers to comply with these restrictions will result in the locations in question being removed from the list of approved employers.


3. The following types of secondary employment will not be approved. This list is not complete, but is indicative of the type of secondary employment that will not be approved.

a. Any business that is regulated, licensed or whose services are utilized by the Town of Davidson or the Davidson Police Department;

b. Employment by any other law enforcement agency in a sworn capacity.

c. The operation or control of any taxicab.

d. Any business associated with the security industry

e. Debt collection

f. Repossession of vehicles or other property

g. Responding to, sale of, installation, monitoring or repair of security alarm systems

h. Private detective/investigator as defined by N.C.G.S.

i. Insurance adjuster or insurance investigator.

j. Private protective business or service.

k. Bail bondsman or bail bonding agency.
